Story
My wonderful father, Barry, peacefully passed away in August after losing his battle with Cancer.
Upon getting a prognosis of 2-8 weeks left to live in July, Dad got given a place at the Coventry Myton Hospice. It was a place for him to be safe, supported and cared for, in the time he had left. From the moment we arrived, I knew how special this place was going to be for us all.
The care Dad received, the love the nurses gave him, and ultimately the respect and dignity they gave him was outstanding. They let Dad carry out every last wish he had, and advocated for us as a whole in every scenario. They talked to me, as a human, with kindness and compassion, and left no questions un-answered.
The relatives flat was made available to me, which was such a relief amongst the sadness that consumed me. I stayed there for two nights, but in the final days, they put me up in a camp-bed, held my hand, and in those darkest hours supported me.
The flat provides a little bit of normality for those families going through end of life with a relative & ensures they can get some rest in between being with their loved ones. I have created this page, to see if we can raise funds to support improving the relative flats, enabling them to purchase mattress toppers/ extra pillows/ single duvet sets and self care packages (Shampoo and body wash etc) to help those staying in the flats.
My Dad was a charity man, and during this time of sadness I’d like to try and help the next family supporting their loved ones through end of life.
Thankyou ❤️
A little bit about the amazing Myton Hospices.
"At The Myton Hospices we believe that everyone matters for every single moment of their life; we focus on enhancing life when cure is no longer an option. We are leaders in compassionate end of life care; our work centres on our patients and involving them in decisions about their care. Perhaps most importantly we give them more quality time with their loved ones.
Last year we supported more than 1,500 people and their families, in our three hospices, via our patient & family support services, and in the community through Myton at Home."
